The Arc of North Central Virginia is calling on the community to help raise $5,000 in 30 days to launch the Community of Self-Advocates (COSA) Young Entrepreneurs, a new initiative supporting young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) in starting or expanding their own businesses.
The program will equip self-advocates with essential tools to succeed, including a professional business profile, a branded marketing kit, initial business supplies and more. With community support, The Arc plans to expand the program to include ongoing training on relevant business skills, one-to-one mentoring, and increased exposure to potential customers in the community.
The University of Maryland renamed its Office of Diversity and Inclusion to Belonging & Community at UMD to reflect that the office supports “anyone who needs help establishing a sense of belonging and finding a nurturing community.”

Aging Together’ s Annual 5 over 50 program will take place on September 18th 5-8pm at the Fauquier Springs Country Club. Karen White will be honored as the Fauquier recipient – Mrs. Karen Hughes White was born, raised, and now resides in Fauquier County, Virginia. She is a descendant of free and enslaved African Americans of Virginia dating to the early 1700s. White has served on several county boards and committees and was a Fauquier County Circuit Court deputy clerk. Her research of Fauquier’s African Americans is not only known locally but nationally. She is a co-founder and President of the AAHA (Afro American Historical Association of Fauquier County).
