• During a Feb. 21 special meeting, the University of Virginia’s board of visitors voted for UVA Health to continue providing gender-affirming treatment to people under 19, but only to current patients. New patients will instead be referred to “alternative private providers” until further notice.
  • Ending Radical And Wasteful Government DEI Programs And Preferencing – The White House – calls for “the termination of all discriminatory programs, including illegal DEI and ‘diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility’ (DEIA) mandates, policies, programs, preferences, and activities in the Federal Government, under whatever name they appear.
    • An Executive Order threatens schools to drop their Diversity, Equity and Inclusion policies or face losing federal funding.  Parents Defending Education, a parental rights education group, reported it has so far found 21,232 schools implementing DEI across 610 school districts in 46 states and the District of Columbia affecting more than 13 million students.
  • Germanna Community College has renamed their Equity Investment program to Advancing Student Success. “We recognize our responsibility to create, maintain, and nurture an academic and social environment that respects all people and ideas. We are committed to being a community that respects all culturesexperiences, and abilities and that prepares individuals to thrive in a global society.”

  • The first-ever astronaut with a physical disability has been cleared for a mission onboard the International Space Station.  John McFall, a 43-year-old British surgeon and former Paralympian who lost a leg in a motorbike accident when he was 19, said he was “hugely proud” of clearing the hurdle.
  • Playdate Inc. the children’s museum in Culpeper is working with local businesses to sponsor admission for families receiving Medicaid.  Any child on Medicaid can visit the museum at no charge for the months of February and March.
  • Culpeper Pride has announced the 3rd Annual Culpeper Pride Festival will take place at Mountain Run Winery on June 1st.
