This year the Culpeper Branch of the NAACP highlighted Juneteenth on Thursday, June 19, from 5 pm to  9 pm as part of the Town of Culpeper, Culpeper Renaissance 3rd Thursday summer concert series at The Depot (111 Commerce St.) in downtown Culpeper.

“When we learned that the town’s summer series would fall on the Juneteenth holiday, we advocated successfully with Culpeper Renaissance to choose a band for this date which celebrates black music: come out to hear R&B / Soul music by Deja Grüv Band and to drop by our NAACP Juneteenth table.  We hope to reach a wider audience this year, as residents and visitors seek out the Town’s event. The family-friendly occasion is a ticketed event: $10, under 21-free. Come by for music, venders, food trucks, and to visit the NAACP table for Juneteenth, black history and voter registration information, or just to sit and visit.

Juneteenth National Independence Day, June 19th, became a federal holiday in 2021. The holiday dates to 1865 when 250,000 enslaved persons in Texas were set free by the U.S. Army during the final days of the American Civil War. For many Americans, the day serves as a celebration of the JOY of freedom for all citizens.”

2025 Matching Fund Drive and Community Gathering

We have been challenged by an anonymous Branch donor who has come forward to support and help lift up this Culpeper 7058 branch.  We are asking you to stand with the vision of this long-time member to support the NAACP mission in its Culpeper, Madison and Rappahannock tri-county community. This visionary donor will match the total of all contributions up to $1,000.

NAACP’s core mission has always been rooted in transforming the adversities of the past in order to secure the accomplishments of inclusive and empowered communities — places where every aspect of our lives can thrive.  We want this organization to be here working through our leaders and our membership to shine a light on and make better every aspect of our life together: education, community inclusion, economics, health and wellbeing, and racial justice.

We may be feeling set-upon now by inner and outer events, but this is not how we want to be going forward. We need the support of your time and your dollars, and most of all we hope you will give the NAACP Culpeper 7058 leadership your decision to press on together, with visionary membership lighting our path forward.

So, NAACP Warriors, please put this on your calendar: Drop by the Culpeper Library Community Room, Saturday July 12th from 2 -3:30 pm. Enjoy refreshments, conversation, branch history photos, and make a donation of any size to our 2025 Matching Find Drive Campaign.

Let’s be there, together on July 12th!
