In honor of National Agriculture Week, we presented Glebe Farm with the 2024 AgriBusiness of the Year award.  The Swan family has owned and operated the property since it was purchased in 1870, making it one of Culpeper’s few century farms. They grow corn, soybeans, hay, and cattle. The property is also home to the J. A. Swan Jr. & Co. museum featuring farm equipment from the early 1900s.

On Friday March 15th, The Lead Culpeper Class of 2024 spent the day learning about and engaging with Small Businesses in our community!

We started the day at Culpeper Economic Development to learn more about the resources offered to businesses through the Central Virginia Small Business Development Center – CV SBDC and then walked to Kash Imprints to learn more about their history and what they do! Not only did we get to watch their team make amazing T-shirts! We all got a 2024 Lead Culpeper Shirt to take home and wear proudly!

We learned about the great work that Culpeper Renaissance Inc. is doing for businesses in our historic downtown district and went on a scavenger hunt to meet the owners of a few of our downtown businesses and learn more about who they are and how they operate!

We finished the day at Culpeper Baptist Church with Speed Networking with Small Business Leaders! Thank you to Mountain Run Winery Pamprints LLC Stephen King Banks Graphic Design Sarah Langland Gretchen Franti – Thrivent All Install for participating!

Amy and Sarah had the honor of attending the Culpeper County Volunteer Fire Department’s 100th Anniversary Banquet on Saturday!

Culpeper has grown tremendously and changed quite a bit in the past 100 years, and the volunteers at Culpeper County Volunteer Fire Department have been there to support its citizens in their times of need.

Did you know that in 2023 alone, they responded to an impressive 916 calls with a 99.7% response rate? Their average response time of 9 minutes and 11 seconds showcases their dedication and efficiency.

Behind these remarkable numbers are 65 volunteers with a collective 1,128 years of experience, along with 6 auxiliary members. Their commitment is unparalleled, evident in the staggering total of 19,699 hours they put in last year alone to include admin work, truck checks, training hours and operations.

And let’s not forget how their efforts have saved Culpeper taxpayers more than $550,000!

On behalf of the business community, We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Culpeper County Volunteer Fire Department for their selfless service and unwavering dedication. Your bravery and sacrifice do not go unnoticed. Here’s to another century of excellence!

On Wednesday, our community came together at the 2024 State of the Community event hosted by the Culpeper Chamber of Commerce. The morning was filled with insightful discussions and valuable takeaways.

Agriculture: Carl Stafford, Virginia Cooperative Extension—Culpeper Unit, gave us the history of agriculture in Culpeper and its current state.

Public Safety: Chief Chris Settle, Culpeper Town Police, explained how advancements in technology are enhancing the efficiency of ensuring the safety of our community.

The Health & Wellness Panel had a great discussion on how the different organizations in our community work together to treat the whole person, physically and mentally.

During the Workforce & Education Panel, we discovered the significance of early education (ages 0-5) in laying the foundation for children’s educational success. We were informed about the commendable programs Culpeper County Public Schools and Germanna developed to equip students with the skills needed to confidently enter the workforce.

Thank you to all attendees, sponsors, and speakers for contributing to this enriching dialogue. Let’s continue working together to make Culpeper an even better place to live, work, and thrive!

Thank you to Culpeper Media Network for recording the event. You may watch the replay here: https://cmn.viebit.com/player.php?hash=71Cf0EoEwJQ5SJrR
