Culpeper Young Professionals Board Member Spotlight: Megan King
Meet Megan King, our current Chair Elect for Culpeper Young Professionals! Since moving to Culpeper in 2022, Megan has been a driving force behind the scenes—bringing energy, leadership, and a deep commitment to connection and community.
“When I moved to Culpeper, I knew I needed to make friends quickly for it to feel like home,” Megan shares. “The Young Professionals group has been one of the ways I’ve done that. It’s been a joy to work with such amazing individuals and collaborate on ways we can give back.”
Originally from Fredericksburg, Megan brought with her a sharp mind for strategy and a heart for service. She works as a Tax Manager at YHB CPAs and Consultants, where she helps clients navigate complex financial situations, ensure compliance, and make smart, strategic decisions for their businesses.
With a BBA from Texas Tech University and an MSA from Liberty University—plus her Virginia CPA license—Megan has been working in public accounting since 2019. She specializes in supporting small businesses and their owners, helping them align their financial structures with long-term goals.
For Megan, accounting is more than just numbers. “Tax accounting is a fascinating blend of detail and nuance that keeps the work interesting and engaging,” she says. A neighbor introduced her to the profession in high school, and she’s been hooked ever since.
Outside of work and volunteering, Megan enjoys all things active—ballet, hiking, and water sports—as well as creative hobbies like knitting, quilting, puzzles, and reading.
Whether she’s offering valuable suggestions at a YP meeting or helping a local business plan for the future, Megan brings purpose, professionalism, and a collaborative spirit to everything she does. We’re lucky to have her as part of the YP board—and even luckier to have her stepping into the Chair role next.

We were thrilled to attend the Museum of Culpeper History’s reception on Saturday, June 28th to celebrate the opening of Culpeper Hosts a Hero, their captivating new exhibit honoring General Lafayette’s 1825 visit to our town!
From 5–7 PM, guests enjoyed an evening full of history and hospitality — complete with delicious refreshments, and tastings of local wines from Mountain Run Winery and traditional toddy. The period costumes were absolutely wonderful and transported us back two centuries!
This exhibit spotlights Lafayette’s brief but impactful stop in Culpeper on August 22, 1825. While often overlooked in official records, his visit was documented in detail by Revolutionary War veteran Capt. Philip Slaughter, giving us a rare and personal glimpse into the “Guest of the Nation’s” day in our town.
The exhibit features fascinating artifacts, including the itinerary of de Lafayette, portraits, surgical scissors, a ladle used to serve during the celebration, a platter depicting General Lafayette’s arrival in New York, as well as images and items from the 1925 Centennial event held in Lafayette’s honor and more!
If you haven’t seen it yet, Culpeper Hosts a Hero: General Lafyette’s Visit – August 1825 is a must-visit for history lovers and proud locals alike!

What a spectacular 4th of July in Culpeper!
From start to finish, this year’s celebration was bursting with community spirit and hometown pride. The day kicked off with the Culpeper Freedom 5K, hosted by Culpeper Baptist Church to benefit Pamper me Pink—a wonderful way to get moving for a great cause!
Next up was the always-popular FREEDOM Car & Bike Show, presented by Herestoresva CARS (Christ-Centered Addiction Restoration Services), showcasing some incredible rides and even better stories of restoration and hope.
The fun continued at Heritage Park with the Food Truck Rodeo and a full lineup of activities for all ages at our brand new community space. The energy was amazing, the food was delicious, and the smiles were everywhere!
And of course, we ended the day in true Culpeper fashion—with a dazzling fireworks show that lit up the night sky and our hearts.
Thank you to the Town of Culpeper Government and the Culpeper Festival Committee for making it all happen. Your hard work and dedication make our community celebrations truly unforgettable!

Last night, members of the Culpeper Young Professionals were proud to attend the Culpeper Chamber’s Appreciation & Valor Awards to support and celebrate our nonprofit of the year, Culpeper County Volunteer Fire & Rescue Association, Inc., and many others who serve our community with bravery and dedication.
It was an honor to recognize local heroes from across our public safety community, including organizations like the Culpeper County Sheriff’s Office and Town of Culpeper Police Department.
We’re grateful for the opportunity to give back to the local heroes who serve our community with courage and commitment every day.

On Wednesday July 23rd, Amy had the opportunity to join regional leaders in Charlottesville as part of the GO Virginia Region 9 stop on the Virginia Chamber Foundation’s Blueprint Virginia 2035 Tour—a strategic initiative to shape the Commonwealth’s economic future.
Over the course of a year, the Virginia Chamber is engaging over 7,000 stakeholders through regional tours, surveys, industry council meetings, and signature events. The goal? To ensure Blueprint Virginia 2035 reflects the real needs and voices of businesses and communities across the state—just as we work to maintain Virginia’s position as CNBC’s #1 state for business.
We heard directly from Cathie J. Vick, the new President & CEO of the Virginia Chamber of Commerce, who shared a powerful economic update, including both statewide and regional trends. Then attendees were invited to participate in open discussion and offer policy recommendations in key areas like workforce, housing, healthcare, education, innovation, and economic development.
This is collaboration in action—and it’s how we ensure that every corner of the Commonwealth is positioned for long-term success.
If you want to help shape Virginia’s economic strategy for the next decade, I encourage you to get involved in this process by taking the statewide survey: https://survey.survicate.com/2de8c4a1a9a59fa8 Your voice matters.
